From “I Wish I Had That” to “I’m Going After It”

What is the envy telling you?

Jealousy can be a powerful messenger. But the goal isn’t just to notice what you want — it’s to do something about it.

If you’ve ever felt that pang of envy scrolling through someone else’s good news… congratulations, you’re human. But also: you might be closer to your own dream than you think. Here's how to go from longing to action:

1. Pull on the Thread of Jealousy

Instead of brushing jealousy aside, get curious. Ask yourself:

  • What exactly am I jealous of here?

  • What might that reveal about what I want?

  • Is there a part of that I could pursue in my own way?

Don’t stop at “I wish I had that.” Take it one layer deeper: What’s the craving behind it?  It’s often something like freedom, purpose, creativity, connection, recognition — not the thing, but what the thing represents.

2. Write Down What’s In the Way — Then Fact-Check It

Grab a piece of paper (or your notes app) and write down everything that’s stopping you. Be honest and let it flow — fears, stories, logistics, all of it.

Then go back and look at each item. Ask:

  • Is this a fact or a fear?

  • Is it a real constraint or a self-imposed limit?

  • What might be possible if I challenged this story?

Often, we find that half the roadblocks we carry are assumptions or outdated beliefs. When we call them out, they lose power — and we gain clarity.

3. Take One Tiny Step Toward the Dream

This is where the magic starts. You don’t need to upend your life or quit your job tomorrow. You just need to move.

→ Can you schedule a conversation with someone doing what you want to do?

→ Research a class, apply for something, carve out one hour to create?

→ Say “no” to something that’s draining your energy?

Small moves compound. And when they’re aligned with something you actually want — momentum builds quickly.

One More Thing: Wishing for something isn’t weak. It’s often the first whisper of your next chapter. You don’t have to chase it recklessly. But you do have to stop ignoring it.

Start small. Stay curious. And remember — just because it’s hard doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

Sometimes the hardest part is hearing your own voice beneath the noise.

That’s where coaching comes in — a clear space to explore what you want, what’s getting in the way, and what real steps forward look like. Ready to explore it together?
